Ceramic Bearings

Ceramic bearings are on the cutting-edge of specialist bearings. Every year, more developments and advancements in technology allow these bearings to increase performance and reduce in manufacturing costs. The range of benefits cannot be understated from creating unparalleled corrosion resistant bearings to offering extreme high temperature bearings. They can operate without lubrication with some of the lowest possible torque values.

Our bearings are available in all popular metric and imperial sizes and can be custom designed and manufactured with unique requirements. Each bearing arrangement can be tailored to the application at hand. Ball selection for a range of internal clearance options (C3-C5) along with custom cage design with exotic materials is available to you.

Each ceramic bearing material can offer different advantages so please explore our options. Our bearing engineers are always available for tailored application specific technical support so please get in touch.

ADVANTAGES

Lubrication Free

Ceramics are non-ferrous materials that do not micro-weld when in contact with themselves. This allows ceramic bearings to run without lubrication.

Low Density

Many ceramics have low density which can significantly reduce the weight of the assembly. Silicon nitride and silicon carbide are among the lightest of ceramics while zirconia has a similar mass to stainless steel.

Corrosion Resistance

Ceramic bearings do not corrode in the same way to bearing steel when exposed to water or other hazardous chemicals. In many circumstances, they exhibition extraordinary resistance to chemically-corrosive environments.

Non-Magnetic

Ceramics are non-metallic, nonferrous materials which eliminates any magnetism in the system.

Electrical Insulators

The lack of free electrons in most ceramics atomic composition make ceramic bearings highly resistance to electric flow.

High Hardness

Most ceramics are off the charts in terms of Rockwell hardness at between 70-90 HRC.

High Elastic Modulus

With very high relative elastic modulus, ceramic bearings are resistance to shape change with applied loads. This improves wear resistance characteristics.

Extreme Temperatures

Ceramic bearings typically behave in a stable manner at high temperatures providing a comparatively low thermal expansion to bearing steel. It takes much more energy to impact the bond length in ceramics. This makes them suitable to both extreme low and high temperatures.
