Instructional Video

The Portable Install/Remove Tool is used with a v-groove bearing, chamfered bearing or sleeve. It has two important functions.

 

  1. Install Bearing: To accurately and safely drift the bearing into the housing prior to swaging
  2. Remove Bearing: To extract the bearing from the housing after cutting.

 

In cases where the bearing has an interference fit with the housing, it proves impossible to install the bearing into the housing without a tools support. An inaccurate attempt to install the bearing can gouge the housing potentially damaging it beyond repair. A precision drifting tool will ensure complete repeatability with the bearing installation process. In the event the bearing has a clearance fit with eh housing, simply sliding the bearing into the housing is possible.

 

However, after cutting the bearing, a tool is absolutely necessary to safely remove the bearing. The removal portion of the install/remove tool has a pusher that is designed to allow the cut v-groove to fold into itself without affecting the housing. The receiver cup simply accepts the bearings out of the housing.
