THE PROCESS

A U-Roller Swaging Tool or Crowned Roller Swaging Tool or Flat Roller Swaging Tool with Crowned Rollers is used with a chamfered bearing and chamfered housing. A sacrificial sleeve is used to deform material onto both the bearing and housing. The U-Roller Swaging Tool is characteristically used on Airbus Specification 01-05-10. The other common method for process specifications such as Boeing BAC5435 is the Flat Roller Swaging Tool.

Sleeve swaging tools are not as common as tri-roller swaging tools but it is of paramount importance to achieve the optimum swage to pass your inspection. Some mantainance manuals will call out for a sleeve swaging installation if the housing bore needs to be oversized and there is no availability for an oversized bearing.
