THE PROCESS

A segment staking tool is used with a chamfered bearing and a sharp-edge housing. This tool is for use with a hydraulic, mechanical / arbor or pneumatic press. The segment or line staking tool does not spin, it simply provides impressions into the housing using force. These carefully engineered indentations will deform the ductile housing material onto the bearing thus locking it into place.

 

A common process specification is Method 400 of NAS0331.
