Plastic bearings have unparalleled versatility and can be integrated into the most complex systems. They are lightweight, nonmagnetic, lubrication free, maintenance free, nonconductive and incredibly corrosion resistance. These bearings are a very common solution for off-shore, medical and semiconductor applications. With our specialist injection mould tooling designs, Carter can provide features that simply could not be conventionally manufactured.

Corrosion Resistant


Plastic bearings can flourish in the more extreme environments. Whether it be in salt water or a particularly extreme chemical, a plastic bearing solution could be the best option.

Lubrication Free


With the elimination of metal-to-metal contact, micro-welding adhesion is eliminated. Therefore, plastic bearings can run without lubrication making them maintenance free. This can be a great benefit for clean applications.

Lightweight


Plastic can be up to 5 times lighter than steel which produces a myriad of benefits.

Custom Design with Complex Features


When utilizing injection moulding technology for plastic bearings, features otherwise impossible to manufacture become common. This allows for complex product integration and expands the designer’s imagination for solutions.

Free Spinning


The reduction of centrifugal forces on the bearing race surface due to significant weight savings allows plastic bearings to run freer with less inertia.

Hygienic


No lubrication is necessary which makes plastic bearings a great solution for pharmaceutical and medical applications. They can be washed down without corroding and can be sterilized using standard methods such as Gamma or autoclave.

Noise Reduction


Noise is significantly reduced due to the inherent mechanical properties of most plastics. This dampens the system and minimizing harmful harmonics.

Shock Absorption


Plastic bearings are more elastic than metals and ceramics which allows for higher levels of shock absorption. This reduces bearing failure due to brinelling.

Nonconductive


If system conductivity is a concern, plastic bearings could be a solution. Nonmetallic races and balls eliminate the flow of electrons which could be a necessary benefit to your mechanical system.
