ADVANTAGES

Increased Speed


When using replacing steel balls with silicon nitride balls, the speed capabilities increase between 20-50%. Silicon nitride is roughly 60% lighter than 52100 chrome steel which minimizes internal forces and heat generation.

Increased Lifetime


The service life is increased because silicon nitride is around twice as hard as conventional bearing steel. As the bearing rotates the ceramic material polishes the metallic raceway which enhances performance.

Lubrication Free


The elimination of metal to metal contact alloys these hybrid bearings to operate without lubrication. Although they perform better with the addition of the “thin film” lubrication provides, ceramics do not cause micro-welding adhesion.

Extreme Temperature


Hybrid bearings can operate as low as -273°C (-459°F) or up to 482°C (900°F). Although it’s possible, proper precautions and expertise is required to ensure success.

Minimize Torque


When it’s necessary to minimize start-up and running torque, lubrication-free hybrid bearings exhibit lower inertia and a harder running surface.

Corrosion Resistance


Hybrid bearings are typically highly customizable with access to many different types of ring material and specialist coatings. Commonly standard in 440C stainless steel or provided with UNASIS XtraChrome coatings, hybrid bearings can provide extreme corrosion resistance.

Electrical Insulation


Most ceramic rolling elements are electrical insulators such as silicon nitride. This is ideal for impeding eddy currents in electric motors.
